This one was tough to do. I’m pretty closed to as privileged as you can be (I’m a female non-Christian, which sets me in the “other” categories, but they’re pretty small), so the chances to offend/get something incredibly wrong are large. But that’s the point. People are afraid to write about other races, other genders, other sexual orientations, other ages, other nationalities, because they’re afraid to get it wrong, afraid they will offend someone. But it needs to be talked about. It needs to be written about. It makes you a better writer because you work will better reflect the world we live in, and it will make your work available to a wider audience.

And then we talk to Lou Anders from WorldCon, a very tired, loopy, Lou Anders, the Hugo Award Winning editor from Pyr!

(Warning- the swear word buzzer is a little loud. Be aware when using headphones!)

One Response to ISBW #218: Writing the Other / Lou Anders Interview

  1. Jim Krenz says:

I really enjoyed this episode Mur. Great interview with Lou Anders! You should put V for Vendetta on the top of your movies that need to be seen list. There are words in that screenplay that wake my weary soul.
