Creative types don’t think about stuff like investments, insurance, and file backups. That is, until they’re 65, sick, with no money in the bank, and their hard drive just crashed. This is stuff you must consider.

Since recording this, I’ve learned about the Freelancer’s Union, and I just became a member. It’s rather NYC focused, but there are plenty of benefits for the rest of us too.

And we talk to my buddy, the incredibly nice and brilliant Grammar Girl (aka Mignon Fogarty!)

One Response to ISBW #217: Boring grown up stuff / Grammar Girl Interview

  1. During your podcast, you mentioned a concern about versions in Scrivener. Whenever you quit Scrivener, it saves a back up version that existed at the close of that session. On a Mac, under the Go Menu, select Go To Folder and enter: ~/Library/Application Support/Scrivener/Backups. The files are zipped. I’ve recovered many a version using this method. You just need to remember to regularly shut down Scrivener. I know I will often leave the program open for days.
