    I have the opposite problem with my gadgets. I don’t feel like they’re a distraction – I feel like they are a responsibility.

    I have a music player that can play great podcasts on any topic imaginable. There are also fascinating lectures available from some of the finest universities in the country.

    My e-reader can display copies of classic novels that I haven’t read, most of them free downloads in the public domain.

    And my camera knows more about photography techniques than a professional. It also provides me with the equivalent of unlimited film. When I am NOT using these gadgets I feel like I am wasting all that potential. It drives me a little bit crazy!

    I used to know what Milton means, too. Seems like it was really important. Like one of those episodes where the doctor/scientist gets temporary alien genius, and then, dang, goes stupid again; that is, back to average. Seems like there’s been a couple of sci fi novels like that but… I can’t remember! Fortunately I’m at peace about it.
