Mur, something you might find amusing.

Your theme songs (I Should Be Writing and Mighty Mur at Gmail dot Com) have reached revered status. I have had them both stuck in my head in the last week.

Speaking of weight loss (I know Mur doesn’t have to worry about this). The only thing that ever worked for me was entering my weight every day on the ‘Hacker’s Diet’ online graph. This is completely free, and calculates a trend line that ‘gets rid of the noise’ of your minor natural weight fluctuations, and lets you really see what’s happening over the long term. Then I just try to keep the line going lower.

Thanks, Mur! I found this episode really interesting, and it was fun to get to listen to Howard for more than his 1/3 of “15 minutes long…” Look how spiffy you guys are in the pic!

  4. Mur, thanks for having me on the show. You are a delightful hostess! Sorry I didn’t link this on Friday — this weekend has been insane.

Shout-outs for this cast are also due to Gail Carriger, Phil and Kaja Foglio, and my buddy Richard Bliss, all of whom got mentioned as examples.

@howard Thanks for taking the time to hang out with me – it was tons of fun. And show notes will soon be up – my show notes assistant is quite thorough. And her Google-fu is strong. :)

Come back to the show anytime!

  6. If your assistant is linking to people, she can find Richard Bliss at http://richardbliss.typepad.com/game_whisperer/ among other places.

Great episode, Mur. As far as writing each day goes, you hit the nail on the head describing it. I’m glad I FINALLY hit that feeling a while back. It’s just like exercising, when if I don’t get at least three runs in a week I end up feeling fat and lathargic, where with writing my mind feels like it thinking through syrup if I haven’t got the words out and down.

    Keep up the great casts.

Sorry to double post, but this was also posted today on another site which bears thinking about next to this episode:

    Hi Mur,

I enjoyed this podcast as I am in the same boat as you. I was brought up by feminist Mum who didn’t teach me about being girly (and I didn’t want to be). Even when I reached the corporate world, I didn’t wear makeup, or when i tried to, it looked awful so I gave up. I was also a lot fatter when I lived (an drank) in London!
In the last 2 years of starting my blog and becoming more conscious of my physical and online presence, I have also been for makeup lessons! I went to Myer (like Macy’s I think?) and asked the lady there to show me what to do. Pretty embarassing at 33! I also started to wear my hair down instead of scraped back into ponytail all the time.
Now I am involved with National Speaker’s Association I am going to head back to a pro and get another lesson as I need to step it up a notch. Pro speakers have good hair and makeup! I really enjoyed hearing that you have felt the same way though.
It is still us under here :)

    Thanks, Joanna
