Patton Oswalt has a great bit on the Christmas Shoes thing. Luke Ski played it on a recent episode of his new podcast Bad Rapport.

Also, I know I’ve mentioned it to you before, but my favorite Christmas movie is still The Ref with Denis Leary and Kevin Spacey.

I made the mistake of listening to this while eating lunch at a restaurant. I’m laughing out loud in public. No one is overtly staring, but I’m not done listening yet.

I’ll never be able to watch Rudolph again without thinking “Santa is a dick.” :)

No mention of Santa Claus: the Movie and the high-quality Scrooginess of John Lithgow? I’m HEARTBROKEN.

    Hee.

And, similar to the issues brought up in your discussion of Rudolph… am I the only one who grew up thinking that Mickey Mouse was a TOTAL JERK? I hate that mouse. He was always SO mean to Pluto, and Pluto never did anything wrong. What kind of horrible person is mean to a dog? MICKEY IS EVIL.

LOL! I’m sorry Carrie! No offense intended! I thought about Santa Claus: The Movie after the fact. Wasn’t on my mind cause I haven’t seen it in years.

Thank you for posting this episode, I loved it. My daughter is 16 now but when she was younger, we watched a show out of Canada called The Big Comfy Couch. The only holiday episode they did was called Comfy and Joy. It centered around ‘the longest night’ aka Solstice. I highly recommend it.

Many years ago, I was watching “Rudolph” with about a dozen of my friends. When it got to the part with the Island of Misfit Toys, one of my friends wondered aloud what was wrong with the doll, why was she on the island. Without missing a beat, one of the other guys said, “She’s a slut.”

I loved this episode! Rocked my socks. I found myself paying more attention to the not so hidden meanings in Rudolph after watching it with my 5 yr old niece. Not Woman’s Work Indeed.
