Perhaps it’s the migraines that make me think strange things. But while sitting in the haze of a (thankfully) receeding migraine this morning, I just thought, “NaNoWriMo. Nano WriMo. What, is that like really small writing month?”

Then my buddy Gwen on Twitter said it sounded like a twitter project.

So what the hell- let’s do Nano WriMo! If you can’t commit to 50,000 words in the month of November, how about 4200 characters? That’s 140 characters of fiction every day – well, let’s say 135, saving five for one space and the hashtag #nwm

Bonus points if you write the fiction about nanobots or some other wee object.

    I love this idea!

Now I wonder if everyday should be different fiction…or if they should tie together :)

Fascinating proposal! Does it have to be one continuous piece of fiction, or can there be a different piece every day or week?

  3. Wow, that’s, on average, about 840 words. You’d almost have to write the story out beforehand, just to get the pacing right. I mean, that’s a one-page story there. :)

  4. Now we need (wait for it!) a micro site to promote it. And some mini-sponsors. Flash (in the pan?) ads, you know. Small stuff, let the little people handle it.

I’ll be glad to micro-manage it.

Oh THIS is a challenge I like.

yeah! i’m all about this! cause i never finished Nanowrimo the five years i did it…and frankly i’ll be busy having a life come Nov anyways…

I’m in. Just not sure which novel I’ll be doing at this point. Sadly, nothing with nanobots (although I might be able to work that into one of the concepts)

  8. Shea says:

This is perfect! I never get beyond the second page of any fiction I write anyway. Nano twovels!

That’s a really cool idea! I’m doing an “unofficial” NaNoWriMo to finish my novel, but I’m sure I can fit in another 135 characters on top of my 1667 word daily target :)

Quote “frankly i’ll be busy having a life come Nov anyways…”
What kind of talk is that?!? You can have a life complete with a job, mate and children and STILL do NaNoWriMo!

    Right?
I say; being a completely delusional newb, devoted to denial.

We know it stands for National Novel writing month, but what the hey, I like yours way better, Mur.
I’ve done more than 40k, but I still couldn’t feel proud or satisfied. It was terrible. No gold nugget whatsoever. It was because I had all these terrible Google Docs problems. Much tears involved.
I have the time. My family is kind enough to help me mold my schedule in with NaNo, taking my responsibilities and things like that. It’s nice, but I know in December (which happens to be my birthday month) I’ll have to make it all up. Somehow.

  12. Great idea. Perhaps I’ll do that as well as NaNoWriMo.

I love it! I’ll definitely be participating. Hmm. I’m thinking a bunch of inter-related short Twitterfics all set in the same world. And what the hell–I’ll make it steampunk, since I’ve done a lot of Victorian research anyway for the steampunk locked-room murder mystery that I’m polishing right now. I’m cloudscudding on Twitter (among other places), if anybody wants to follow along!
