The name of the Con you are thinking of is the North American Science Fiction Convention. The last one was held in St. Louis, and to be honest it killed the Con. The prices got raised to match the World Con price and most of the regulars could not afford to go. I would welcome you thoughts if you got the the 2010. Congratulations on 4 years and see you for the next 4.

Interestingly enough, in recent years media itself has become more writer friendly for want of a better phrase. With things like On-Demand, and the ability to watch on your computer, and the DVD sets coming out fairly quickly, TV no longer has to be that thing that you need to schedule time for. You can watch it when you have the time. Heck, with the exceptions of Doctor Who and Torchwood all the shows I still watch (about half the number that I was watching every week just a few years ago) are on line sometime between the day after original air date and 8 days after. I'm at the point where I'm ready to cut out my cable and just use the TV for DVDs and the small handful of video games I actually have. Would certainly save me a few bucks a month. The only thing I'd miss are the On Demand music videos, but I imagine I'd get over that seeing as I'm paying increasingly less attention to Popular music and spend most of my music listening time either with long established artists, or with new podsafe artists.

Of course it could all be just me, but honestly, I look around, and there are truly *less* things in life distracting attention away from writing.

Hi Mur -

First time listener & I loved the show. :) I plan to return for more!

I agree with the good point of having to pull away from media to get writing done. I gave up several television shows over the year and it has made a big difference. Another thing that sometimes has to happen, too, is to unplug from the Net. It's so easy to just open a fresh browser window and get lost for hours. Granted, the immediate access to research is great, but when I need to get some hard core writing done, I actually seek out coffeeshops or locations that DON'T have free WiFi - and I'm surprised at how much I get done.

Thanks again for the great podcast!

That was fantastic. Congratulations on four years. I've enjoyed every installment. Call me sentimental, but this episode was particularly inspiring.

Your point on backing away from media is well taken, and I will be moving myself from my portable writing desk in front of the tv to the real writing desk which is more isolated. (Can I commit to turning off the wireless card on my laptop? We'll see.)

Also, I like your idea of putting out something everyday on isbw. I think I'll try that on my own blog, which had been weekly. It's definitely something that will force me to write a little each day.
