More excuses and then some goals

Starting around midweek last week, the house went to hell. The fish is already sick (dropsy, I think, but she’s not responding to any treatment), and the ten year old dog is showing signs of exhaustion after spending over a week with a puppy. The Pink Tornado got sick with strep throat, and Jim got a cold/sinus infection. So I got to use one of the best excuses for not writing:

I can’t write, I am taking care of a sick family.

So yeah, that held me back a bit – but today I have to start writing again in earnest. Even thought the kiddo is still home from camp with a high fever. And very distracting. But I have new goals. Yes. GOALS.

Hopefully my agent will be back to me in August with suggestions for the rewrite of Heaven. Which means I have a month- or rather, 25 days- to finish writing WAR AND get Project code name: Underground edited so I can dedicate August to Heaven.

That’s a tall order. But hell, without goals, we’re just floundering, right?

This includes, of course, my normal requirements of column deadlines, HER SIDE every week, and WAR and ISBW podcasting. I also have a tiny secret project I’m working on that’s due this month. Not a lot of work, but a bit of mind space.

So I need your help and support. I need a go eagle go! from time to time. And keep me honest.

(I’ll be talking more about these goals in the next ep. of ISBW, dropping today once I QA it.)

Writing prompt for July 6: Most of us have experience with anvils from cartoons. And they’re usually falling. Put an anvil in your story.

  1. Wow, that’s all lot of stuff, good and bad, all at once. But you’ve hit the key there – goals. Attainable, measureable, all that jazz. Goals are good. Good luck and I’m sure you’ll make them, and not only that, you’ll feel really good when you do!

    Keep up the great work!

  2. That you get as much done as you do is amazing to me. What I always say to myself when I get overwhelmed is, “You’ve done it before, you can do it again.” Obviously you are capable of reaching your goals. So, GO EAGLE GO!

Remember that you reach and excite a lot of people with your stories. Think about that feeling you get when you see a new novel by one of your favorite authors. Your fans get that feeling when they see that you’ve posted a new blog entry, a new podcast, or a new installment of Heaven or one of your other stories. So hang in there and feel the love.

  3. Goal eagle goal?

  4. Sandy is dead-on. It’s such a thrill to see there’s a new podcast to be downloaded or a new blog post or more fiction available from you. Hell, podcast about how you’ve done f@*&-all lately, and I’ll be at home sympathizing and cheering you on.

    GO, EAGLE, GO!

  5. Every podcast you put out is extra inspiration to write, every one of your listeners/readers owes you for putting out such great stuff, for free, and consistently.

After inspiring thousands of people, you’ll complete those goals no problem, and your future self can kick back and relax.

Good luck, you don’t need it, but good luck anyway.

P.S I hope PT and your husband feel better
