Thank you for reading my email! I have in fact been writing my butt off in the last few days, and now I have an extra incentive to get through the last mile. (“Can’t edit an empty page.” Got it.)
And, for the person who wanted online feedback on queries, you can always submit to Query Shark: http://queryshark.blogspot.com/
No guarantee that the Shark will actually review your query, but s/he does DETAILED breakdowns of queries, and simply reading through the old posts can be extremely helpful. The critiques go beyond the mere “follow submission guidelines, tell me about your book, and don’t come across as a lunatic” and delve into some better ways to pitch your novel.
Hey Mur,
I feel for Benjamin too. I had a University Creative Writing lecturer, a few years ago, exactly like his teacher. On top of hating anything speculative, she had gender issues as well. She hated men – of any description – particularly outspoken ones who continued to submit Sci-Fi, fantasy and horror stories. I even managed to get a speculative bent on the poetry section.
Needless to say, my course results were ordinary and not worth the cost.
I’m enrolled in a diploma of Professional Children’s Writing now and earning HD marks.
Jeff
I’m always amazed to see writing teacher’s like that exist…
and thanks for reading my email!
CARRIE, CARRIE, CARRIE!!!! The task is daunting, and yes, its WORK, but after it’s done then bask in the glow of a job well done…. because next comes editing!
( I know, not sounding very comforting am I. But you know that feeling you get after finishing up a hard job? That feeling of success that you get that YOU DID IT? It’s worth every micro atom of blood sweat and tears, so….
YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Cheers!
Shawn
I DID IT! Thanks to anyone and everyone who was rooting for me.
