ISBW Video Podcast #1 – Happy 2009!
I have threatened to give you video content, now I deliver! The cuts are a little awkward at times, but I’m still learning.
Hope you enjoy!
The podcast for wanna-be fiction writers by a writer who's still learning. Writer Mur Lafferty discusses rejection, cover letters and getting the oomph to keep going.

All good advice, but I think you forgot the most imporant tool of all for a fiction writer; a vivid imagination.

Oh, that was cool! I like the video. I also triple and quadruple backups. If one owns a website, that space can also be a nice safe place.
Off topic: have you considered doing an interview with Ursula Vernon? I’ve been reading her blog forever (and watching her DA page and Digger; she is hilarious). Nurk sits proudly on my bookshelf. A while back, she mentioned you as a friend, and two completely separate pieces of my world collided. My podcasts and my DA favorites seem like separate spheres to me, and here they connect. She is so funny. I would love to hear her interviewed (and, yes, I did hear that comics interview she did with several other people, but it wasn’t the same as a one-on-one sort of thing).

Hi Mur,
I believe there is a word for this kind of thing, and that word is “AWESOME.”
Just FYI, though, the video won’t play on my iPod. Just wanted to make you aware of that if you weren’t already. But hey, who cares? Video!

One minor correction: Gmail actually lets you add attachments of up to 20 megabytes (rather than ten), which is twice as awesome:

One bit of news about using the iPod as a back-up drive (which I do and love). That doesn’t work on all iPods. Only the “classic” style iPods. The newer flash-based ones (like the iPhone, iPod Touch, Shuffle, etc.) don’t allow “drive” access that way. There are hacks that can get around it, I am sure, but it’s not an easy or standard feature of them…
Plus, all the Flash ones have far less space on them, so they wouldn’t really make great back-up drives anyway.

A worthy debut in the realm of vidcasting, more “jiggly” camerawork I say, gives it that sense of unscripted appeal. I look forward to the next installment, so kudos from the bottom of the world

The video was fun to watch. I can’t wait to see you do more things with it. It’s great to have the first ISBW for the new year.
You are right about Google.docs. It is a good backup system. I started using it after a box my notes got stolen from my car. Now, I just scan them in and send them to Google for safe keeping.

And you do it again, very good job thanks for everything you do.

It might be shallow, but the first thing I thought when I pressed play was, “Huh, Mur’s hair is different.” So we’re shallow together, I guess.

Hellllloooo Cthulhuuuu!
Excellent work! There’s definitely a role for a video series to accompany the audio show.

Greetings Mighty One,
I am a bit behind on my podcasts but when I saw your video cast I had to leave a comment. I really loved it and I hope you continue doing them. Wonderful wonderful stuff.
A Fan,
Tommy aka DQuartermane

Loved the vidcast Mur! Just audio is great, but video has a more personal one-on-one feel to it and shows subtle traits that audio just doesn’t capture. I really hope you do more of them. My only beef with the first one was the volume: I had to crank up every volume setting to the max to be able to hear you at near conversational level, so you might consider increasing that just a bit in future episodes. Keep ‘em coming!

I thought the videocast was a great partner to the audio. Please do more! (I also appreciated the “jigglycam”) :^)

MORE MUR! MORE MUR! MORE MUR!

Nice to see you instead of just hearing your voice! For future episodes, consider changing the angle of something so that your screen isn’t reflected in your glasses most of the time.

You go Mur!!!

I finally got around to watching your first video podcast (I’m usually taking walks with my iPod shuffle when I have podcast time.) Great job, I’m looking forward to the rest.
I got a kick out of it when you panned around and the first thing I saw (other than the teddy bear) was my backup hard drive! Or at least the exact same model — I guess great writing Mac owners think alike.
