  1. Mur, I’m disappointed you forgot about my TREMENDOUS episode on the Nanomonkeys podcast where I talked about using voice recognition software to convert voice recordings to text. ;-)

Actually, that was a lifetime ago. Mur, I just wanted to let you know that this was the best interview with a writer that I have ever had the pleasure of hearing (that wasn’t on Charlie Rose).

I certainly know Connie Willis’s work but have not read anything by her. That is an oversight that I will be taking care of immediately. Great work Mur!!!

  2. Thanks for the Connie Willis interview; I haven’t read any of her novels, but I do remember enjoying several of her short stories in Asimov’s. And you never really approached the foreshadowed fangirlglee level. :-)

  3. Congradulations on the sales!

  5. Great interview, as fun and informative as the Gamen one. Really liked her point on sometimes dumping a scene when it’s not working. Learned that lesson the hard way myself several times.

  6. It was interesting hearing the part about characters being fashioned to fill a part. I was reading a book on plotting novels, and though I cannot recall the title, I thought it might relate to this. Character is revealed through plot. We can’t spend the entire novel inside someone’s head. Certainly we know that Harry Potter is modest because he mentally recoils when he’s reminded of his fame, however it’s what he does, fleeing to his friends when confronting a crowd, that reveals this character trait.

Oh, and I love editing. It’s the when I make my work… not crap : )

  7. Hi, I just refound you this week and I listned to this show while walking my cat in the garden rigth now. It was a GREAT show, Connie was interesting and I checked and the book you’re talking about is translated so I’ll check if I can find it at the library. Thanks Mur, I really feel like writing something fictional today now!

  8. Wow, Connie Willis. I’ve got one of her early books, Doomsday Book that she signed for me at Littlebook Shop of Horrors that used to be in Arvada, CO.
