rewards
I’ve been thinking a lot about rewards lately. I’ve been loathe to jump back into novel edits, the book feels like such a mess. But I promised myself I’d leave it alone till after VP, then edit it. Well, I’m home from VP. I guess I need to get to work.
So I’ve been considering some stuff I want. Mostly PS2 and DS games. It’s a very Final Fantasy fall, with Final Fantasy III being released in the US for the first time ever, Final Fantasy XII is coming out, and… um… one more. Can’t remember. Regardless, they’re time sinks and therefore not a good idea for me while doing novel edits and gearing up for NaNoWriMo.
But afterward… I’m trying to think of a good reward for myself to keep going on these edits. And then a nice present after NaNo (if I win).
Do you reward yourselves?
(another interview coming today, FYI)

I generally don’t reward myself for writing, but that might be because writing is not my full-time job.
I think when I get something published I would give myself a reward.

I guess I would reward myself if I ever finished my writing. That is part of the reason I’m doing NaNoWriMo this year is to give me a hard deadline to aim for. As I haven’t actually really finished any story I have started, I have never rewarded myself. Though I will be doing something if I finish NaNoWriMo this year.

If there is one thing I love to do, it’s reward myself. And others, too.
In all seriousness, writing/music/and so on are activities I love to do - that goes without saying. The experience of creating is rewarding in and of itself. However, writng or recording (or whatever) can prove to be pretty intense as far as pass times go. I think any activity that deals with goals and “making progress” should have some kind of award system in place. Be it something as simple as a glass of wine after getting through a few tough chapters or laying down a particulary trying guitar part, or something more substantially like a videogame after finishing a novel edit.

Sound equipment will be my next reward… and if I don’t deserve a reward, it will be for Christmas

I’m rewarding myself for finishing my revision of my first novel by doing NaNoWriMo this year. That’s the plan, anyhow.

I always reward myself, but especially if the work isn’t going well. And especially something like edits on a novel. It’s hard NOT to be sick of it by the time you are on your second or third round of edits. Even if it is a glass of wine or a couple of days off, I use a lot of rewards and bribes to get through the last part of finishing a manuscript to publication, because otherwise, it’s too tempting to faff or do something new and shiny.
