I don’t even pretend to know the magical ins and outs of RSS and why it does the things it does. I can’t tell you what I did differently to the posts from yesterday, but I reposted them and now they are magically in the feed. Sorry they weren’t there yesterday.
Abracadabra!
Busy busy busy. Slightly more chatty and raw, but I got it done.

I spoke with Paul S. Jenkins a couple of weeks ago as he was starting work on his podiobook, The Plitone Revisionist. Paul is also the host of The Rev Up Review, pretty much the best SF review podcast available, which also includes podsafe music and original short stories by Paul.
Hey all-
Firstly, I want to thank everyone who answered my rant about my 13th rejection. If anything, it shocked me to realize how many people are actually reading this! As I elaborated, it was only my 13th rejection this year, not my 13th for the story or the 13th of my life. I wasn’t even that upset, just wondered if I should trunk this story that I’d written… probably before my kid was born. I’m really not that upset; as I’m always telling you guys, rejection will not kill you.
Next- This week’s podcast will be about workshops and my upcoming trip to Viable Paradise, and next week I’ll post an interview with James Maxey, novelist and graduate of both Orson Scott Card’s Boot Camp and the 6 week Odyssey workshop. Then I will be taking a needed break from work and the Internet for a while. Being away from the Internet means no podcasts, so don’t expect to hear anything from me for a couple of weeks while I am on vacation. Mid October, I’ll hopefully come back to you with at the least information of my experience at VP, and at the most I’ll have some interviews.
Next- Forum moderator and Chronicler of Mur’s Exploits PG Holyfield let me know that the guys at the Harping Monkey are also thinking of doing a NaNoWriMo thingy, so we’re going to get together and see what all our brain cells together can come up with for our listeners. So we’re working on it! Not sure what, but we’re working on it!
Lastly, thanks as always for downloading and subscribing. My subscribers are up and my downloads are up and, most importantly, feedback is up. I love hearing from you guys, and I appreciate all the traffic the ISBW forum is getting.
Talk to you this weekend.
Should you apologize for writing something edgy or a character unlike yourself?
Tonight I received rejection #13 from, interestingly enough, the Intergalactic Medicine Show (edited by Ed Schubert).
The way I feel about this story is odd. This was probably the first story I felt inspired to write, the first story I felt might have a chance to get published. It’s been rewritten to death and I honestly don’t know what else I can do. It’s dear to my heart. It has a giant turtle in it. I hate to trunk it, but I honestly wonder if it’s time…
How many rejections do you let a story gather before you retire it?
[Edit - I didn't make it clear - 13 rejections for this year, not for the story and not my personal total]
I sat down with writer and editor Ed Schubert at DragonCon and we chatted a bit. A very nice guy, I’m terribly sorry the audio isn’t better.
Ed’s personal site, blog, and Orson Scott Card’s Intergalactic Medicine Show.
[Edit- the very embarrassing "I heavily edit" phone call has been removed. My humblest apologies. 130+ podcasts, you make a mistake now and then...]
Yes, I knew about the blank spot with Elena’s voice mail. I’d been working on the podcast for four days and wanted it done already. Sloppy, I admit. I mentioned the blank spot in the show notes. Really. Look.
Since then I have fixed the file and re-uploaded it. It’s there for the listening. All fixed and shiny.
