ISBW #43 – Agents
ISBW Unplugged – live from Origins.
I missed my deadline.
Jim Baen died June 28, 2006.
Our topic: Agents, what they do, what they don’t do.
And this news didn’t make it into the podcast, but I just learned that I will be attending Viable Paradise this fall!

Mur, I’m getting a 2kb file when I try to download the show…
Congrats on Viable Paradise that is so cool. I have thought about writing workshops before but I have never tried them good luck and tell us what you think.
Congrats re. Viable Paradise. On of my favorite authors (Gould) will be an instructor! (jealous grin)
Congrats on VP!
That one and Clarion are ones I’d love to attend in my lifetime

Wow, congrats on VB. I have the greatest respect for the Haydens and hope you have a great time at VB. Be sure to take your iRiver and get some interviews during your down time
Wow! Congrats on VP. I’m very impressed and excited for you. I hope you’ll be able to work it into your podcast in some fashion.

I heart Miss Snark. I read her religiously and she’s very graciously answered my questions. I definatetly had a “fan girl” moment when I saw her e-mail in my inbox.
Oops – forgot to add… Mur, are you sure you need to take down that entire load bearing wall? My thought while listening to you was that perhaps you just need to give the nasty character an ulterior motive for taking your heroine back to her apartment. Clearly it won’t work that he just does it b/c he’s a nice guy, since he’s not. But if it greatly disturbs the work to have her not go back to her apartment, maybe you just need to give him the right motiviation.
It could be a great story question… hmm… why is he being so nice all of the sudden – as long as you answer it later, you should be good.
Just a thought – I hate to think of your novel being shelved. Mine is still in the fledging stage and I so relate to wanting to “grow up” and look for an agent, etc. I just want it to be done and out the door! It’s too sad to think of it lingering in a drawer….
Congratulaitons Mur!

I think the audio quality on this one was awesome! Which equipment do you use? I use an iPodder IFP-799 and the audio quality on that one is okay, but not great.
I have an iRiver 840, 256 MB recorder with a Sony ECMMS907 digital recording mic plugged in. The current iRivers do NOT have the microphone jack, and can only record using the internal mic. I highly recommend getting an older iRiver refurbished off of eBay.
