Firk ding blast!

(this is a family friendly show/blog so I can’t say what I really want to)

The novel will not make the deadline of being edited today. I am only just past the halfway mark, having found some major tangles to undo in the middle of the novel.

I could bust my butt today, you are saying, but the bad news there is, as I said on today’s podcast, I’m sick. I’m barely staying upright. I want to lie on the couch and feel sorry for myself.

This bums me out. I had several self-imposed deadlines this month and I hit them all but this one. Crud.

  1. *hug* (Cause we all need them, and they’re free!)
Don’t beat yourself up too badly about not making your deadline. your self-imposed deadline was very ambitious for such a major work, even if you had nothing else on. But with a kid and other work and the podcasts and life and sickness…
Think of how many deadlines you *did* make rather than letting all that accomplishment go unrecognised because of the one you didn’t.

Hang in there. I’m sure your book will be glad you gave it the extra attention rather than rushing for the deadline.

Maybe that’s something for a future ISBW, how to adjust your own deadlines, and how to know whether you’re slacking or aiming too high…

  2. I agree. Go easy on yourself and have lots of hot lemon and honey drinks. Garlic is really good for warding off colds - and vampires too!
