ISBW #7

Fear. I’m terrified of some things connected to writing, and I have a little talk with myself. Not a Gollum talk, but a talk nonetheless.

And since I was in the dining room and away from the Internet when I recorded this, I’m terribly embarrassed to say that I got the featured podcast’s name wrong. It’s Media ARTIST Secrets, not Media Podcast Secrets. Which makes sense if you stop to think. Which clearly I didn’t. Hope I didn’t screw anyone up there.

  1. I have to say, I’m right there with you with the wondering about reading unpublished fiction on podcasts.

As a fellow unpublished writer, and as a new podcaster, I’d thought about serializing one of my longer stories on my own podcast. (http://feeds.feedburner.com/ChristianaTalksAboutStuff)

It’s been rejected four or five times already and it’s pretty long, so the markets for it are limited.

Still, I really like the story, and believe in it, so getting it out there, even in an alternative format, is very appealing. But, like you, I’m worried about what impact that might have on my eventually being able to publish it in print.

I’ve mostly made up my mind to go ahead and do it anyway though. Just thought I’d drop in and leave a comment that I’m enjoying your podcast and that I’ve been thinking about many of the same issues.

    Keep at it!

  2. D’oh! It cut off the edge of my feed url. Two F’s in Stuff, and that’s the end.

Also, I guess I’ll point out that I haven’t talked about writing much yet, but as I mentioned, I’m thinking about it.

  3. Well, someone over at podiobooks did a first run of their story as a podcast, and it led to a publishing contract. I think if you do it, you need to really be out there pushing your story. But also remember, you probably just haven’t found the right market yet. Keep trying!
